A lot of the warnings/fear surrounding genetic engineering stem from the fact that we don’t fully understand how biology works, and that if we mess with it we could unleash something terrible that we couldn’t anticipate. It seems to me that climate engineering is much much more likely to lead to some unforeseeable catastrophic disaster. One shot + millions of unknown parameters + no way to stop/reverse the damage = the end of the world?
